I wanted to work for myself. I left the corporate world as a management consultant of nearly a decade to pursue my true dreams and passions, and I want to help you live yours. Today, I’m a licensed real estate agent with EXIT Realty and the owner ...

I had an unforgettable adventure in Patagonia, where we embarked on the W Trek with G Adventures at the end of January.
Flight map showcasing the breathtaking journey to Patagonia.

Day 0

Departing from the US, we landed in Santiago, Chile, marking my first visit to this vibrant city! After a brief day of exploration, we caught another flight to Puerto Natales, where our group was to assemble. Alternatively, one can fly into Punta Arenas airport for more flight options. From there, a taxi or bus ride to Puerto Natales takes approximately 3-3.5 hours each way.

Day 1

Upon arrival in Puerto Natales, we took a taxi from the official taxi desk inside the airport to reach Hotel Capitan Eberhard. A charming hotel equipped with all the essentials for a comfortable stay. We gathered for a meeting with our "CEO" (chief experience officer) Maria, guides Antonio and Zorrito, and the rest of our hiking group to discuss trip expectations. Afterwards, John and I indulged in some local guanaco pizza, preparing ourselves for the upcoming trek!

Day 2

Our W Trek adventure officially began! The day's hike took us to the base of Las Torres, where we marveled at the dramatic three towers and the turquoise lagoon below. Starting from the Welcome Center, we trekked to the Base of the Towers—a roundtrip journey of 14 miles (lasting 9 hours)! Despite the challenging trek, the breathtaking views made it all worthwhile. We then camped at Laguna Azul Camp, a short drive from the Welcome Center, and enjoyed a hearty dinner and a refreshing shower!

Day 3

Today's hike, from my perspective, was the easiest segment of the W Trek. We made our way to Cuernos Camp, covering 7.5 miles of scenic terrain adorned with turquoise waters at every turn. With relatively few steep inclines, the journey was a pleasant one. Arriving at camp in the mid-afternoon, we indulged in another sumptuous dinner and a much-needed shower (along with a shot or two of tequila)!

Day 4

This day presented us with the challenge of hiking to the French Valley lookout and the optional British lookout. Departing from Cuernos Camp after breakfast, we trekked towards the Italiano Park Ranger Station, where we stashed most of our gear before continuing to the French Valley lookout—an hour's hike away. The view was simply stunning! We then faced the decision of whether to proceed to the optional British Viewpoint—and unanimously decided to press on. Despite the chilly and overcast conditions, reaching the viewpoint was an unforgettable experience. The return journey to Italiano was met with rain, adding to the adventure. From there, it was a 3-hour hike to Paine Grande camp, where we were greeted with a spectacular view.

Day 5

On our final day of the W Trek, we journeyed to the Grey Glacier. The relatively flat route to the Grey Glacier viewpoint was a welcome change, and reaching it marked the completion of our W Trek adventure!?? After lunch, we took a ferry across the water, where a van awaited to transport us back to Puerto Natales. We returned to Hotel Capitan Eberhard, enjoying a last group dinner, drinks, and karaoke before retiring for an early flight back to Santiago.

In conclusion, I wholeheartedly recommend the W Trek to anyone seeking an adventure. Though physically demanding at times, G Adventures ensured a comfortable experience with pre-set-up tents, porter services, hot showers, and delicious meals. If you're considering a similarly adventurous journey—please don't hesitate to reach out!
